NEW WELSH TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

CYFLE, in association with Sgrîn, are to stage a two day, step-by-step workshop on ‘Developing Adaptations That Work’ on July 23-24.
The Cardiff date will be the first staging of this new workshop prior to it being toured around the UK.
Sion Hughes, Chief Executive of Cyfle, said: “Novels, stage plays, short stories and real life incidents pose particular challenges if they are to make a successful transition on to the screen, and Cyfle are pleased to work in association with Sgrîn to present this new workshop which will assist Welsh film makers become more successful at undertaking adaptations for the screen. Cyfle are committed to nurturing Welsh film talent, and the constructive and creative environment provided by this workshop will be a great boost in developing the skills of those who attend and will further enhance the growing reputation being enjoyed by the Welsh film industry.”
Aimed at Welsh writers, directors, producers and developers, the workshop will tackle the technical complexities of the craft of the adapted screenplay. Through a mixture of lectures, group exercises, case studies and seminars, it will consider, medium by medium, the general creative questions that adaptations pose. Specific stories will be examined in their original and screen formats so that delegates can learn what it takes to make a successful adaptation. Guest speakers will also make contributions.
The two day workshop will take place at the Cyfle office in Cardiff (Crichton House, 11-12 Mount Stuart Square). Those interested in attending should contact Shân Gwenfron on 01286 671000.
