Pauline Burt appointed Head of new Welsh Film Agency

The new Head of the Welsh Film Agency, Pauline Burt, returns to Wales after spending four and half years in commercial film finance as an Associate at Mansfield Associates in London, where she advised on the Royal Bank of Scotland’s extensive slate of feature projects.
Films were sourced from all over the world, with budgets ranging from £1.5 - £15m and included Kevin Spacey’s 'Beyond the Sea', Mike Barker’s 'A Good Woman', 'Creep' by newcomer Chris Smith, Gaby Dellal’s 'On a Clear Day', Glenn Standring’s 'Perfect Creature' and Peter Cattaneo’s 'Opal Dream'.
Previously Burt headed up production at Sgrin’s Media Agency for Wales where she established the successful short film scheme, Screen Gems, advised the Arts Council of Wales on lottery policy and projects and devised various bespoke training opportunities in collaboration with providers such as Arista and Moonstone.
Similarly Burt worked with new and emerging talent at sister lottery provider, Scottish Screen and BBC Scotland’s Drama Department, which followed a contrasting year in Los Angeles where she took the Producers’ Programme at the highly regarded University of California Los Angeles and worked for international sales agent, August Entertainment and Alan Ladd Jnr’s (Braveheart) The Ladd Company focusing on script development.
On learning of her appointment Burt said: “I am delighted to be returning to Wales and to be given the opportunity to mould the new Film Agency from the ground up. It is our aim to locate, nurture and promote new and emerging talent, across the board, whether the filmmaker’s interest is in commercial or arthouse projects and encompassing all roles (writer, director, producer, camera, sound, editing, etc). Fundamentally we aim to provide meaningful, well informed support and crucially to make the varied and rich talent in Wales visible to the film industry at large.”
