CYFLE SEEK TRAINEES FOR MEDIA-TRAINING PROGRAMME
A NEW concept in employer lead learning aimed at preparing young people for jobs in Wales’s growing interactive media industry are looking for their first trainees.
The Dimension 10 interactive media-training programme is the brainchild of Cyfle, the vocational training providers for the media in Wales. It is supported and funded by the National Assembly for Wales and ELWA. Based at a purpose designed location in Cardiff Bay, the first trainees will be drawn from the Valleys, and must be people who qualify under Objective 1.
Siôn Hughes, Chief Executive of Cyfle, said: “Dimension 10 is an unique fast track scheme which responds to the skills requirements of the Welsh interactive media industry and will support Wales’s knowledge driven economy. Its strength lies in the fact that it’s industry led and provides people with skills which will be directly relevant for jobs in interactive media."
The first full time, six month training programme starts in the autumn. Cyfle are currently seeking ten trainees for it.
Hughes said: "We are looking for people who are over 18 years old, who have a burning desire and the potential to be part of Wales’s evolving interactive media industry. Applicants for Dimension 10 should ideally have some experience in the creative use of computer software and a specific interest in the subject."
During the intensive six month training programme, trainees will be taught how to use the latest software, such as Dreamweaver, Flash, 3D Studio Max and PerL, which are used by interactive media companies.
Trainees will learn new skills through working on set projects in a simulated work environment based on client briefs and deadlines. This will provide them with an understanding of the realities of the commercial world of work for which they are being prepared. Industry professionals will contribute extensively to the training.
Whilst attending the full time training programme, trainees will be paid a training allowance of £50 per week and will also receive an allowance towards travel expenses.
The training provided is based on the vocational professional standards of the Skillset Interactive Media NVQ, which trainees are expected to gain within two years. At the end of the six-month training programme, it is hoped that many of the trainees will move onto the Modern Apprenticeship scheme when they start work with employers.
Anyone interested in applying for a place on the Dimension 10 training programme should contact Cyfle on Tel: (029) 20 465533. (CD)
