Sgrîn announces new chairman
Elis Owen, Controller of ITV Wales and Director of Programmes has been appointed chairman of Sgrîn Cymru Wales.
Mr Owen takes the place of Dr Geraint Stanley Jones CBE, chairman of Sgrîn since 1999.
Originally from Llanelli, Mr Owen joined HTV (now ITV Wales) in 1979, following several years in print journalism on a range of South Wales publications.
Mr Owen was also editor of HTV’s current affairs series, Wales This Week and S4C’s Y Byd Ar Bedwar, both of which have been awarded numerous accolades, including BT Press and BAFTA Wales awards, as well as prizes at the New York Film and Television Festival.
Mr Owen said: “Dr Geraint Stanley Jones has helped Sgrîn to achieve some significant milestones over the last five years and I hope to further develop these achievements. In a time of great change for the creative industries and the media in Wales, my aim is to make sure Sgrîn plays a major part in future developments.”
Berwyn Rowlands, Chief Executive of Sgrîn added: “Sgrîn has a very important strategic role to play and the appointment of such an experienced and well known chairman ensures that the foundation provided by Dr Geraint Stanley Jones will be built on in the years ahead.”
Sgrîn Cymru Wales is responsible for the strategic development of the film, TV and new media industry in Wales.
