Sgrîn produce 10 short films in 10 days
Film making is usually a slow, time consuming process, dragged out over months, but the Screen Gems scheme, run by Sgrîn, have just produced ten short films at the breakneck rate of one per day.
The films were all shot in and around Cardiff and brought together 10 writer-director teams, two experienced producers and a highly skilled cast and crew to produce two-minute films on a wide range of subjects and in many different styles.
The Screen Gems scheme offers the opportunity for emerging writers and directors to gain experience of filmmaking, as well as providing those more experienced with a valuable showcase for their work.
Of the 10 films, five were shot on 35mm film stock, while for the first time in the history of the Screen Gems scheme, the other five were shot with cutting-edge digital High Definition technology.
Satellite Productions, responsible for producing the five digital films and securing the High Definition equipment, said: “What’s good enough for George Lucas and the latest Star Wars films is good enough for us.”
The ten films will be completed in the next two weeks and will be given their premiere in the International Film Festival of Wales before being shipped to film festivals worldwide by the distributors Sgrîn.
Previous Screen Gems films have been shown as far afield as the Cannes Film Festival and Palm Springs.
Gaynor Messer-Price, Head of Shorts/New Talent at Sgrîn, said: “We at Sgrîn are very proud of the fact that we are progressing people in their careers and that writer-directors from Screen Gems have gone on to develop feature projects.”
