Sgrîn goes on the road
Opportunities open to the media industry in Wales are to be highlighted at a series of roadshows this Spring.
From March 22 Sgrîn Cymru Wales is visiting venues across the country to enhance what support is available, both for established companies and people looking to get a foothold in the industry.
“Sgrîn Cymru Wales is the strategic body for the development of the film, television and new media industry of Wales,” said Berwyn Rowlands, Chief Executive of Sgrîn. “Our staff are committed to developing competitive companies, investing in higher skills and education, increasing public access and supporting quality content for domestic and international markets.
“We do this in a number of ways, and we are holding roadshows in the four corners of Wales so that we can explain more about what we can offer those wishing to get into the Media industry and the support we offer to established companies.”
Sgrîn is the distributor of Lottery funding for film development and production in Wales, and also coordinates a number of short film schemes and festivals to promote new talent. The Media Antenna, the gateway to European Media Plus funding, is one of Sgrîn’s departments which has brought 2.5 million euros into Wales since 1997. Education and Exhibition funding is also available to those interested in setting up festivals, film screenings and societies.
The Sgrîn location service – the Wales Screen Commission - promotes Wales as a location and the National Screen and Sound Archive secures the moving image and sound heritage of Wales. Last year, the Commission dealt with over 500 enquiries and is always on the look out for new locations. It is free to register and Commission staff will be present at all of the roadshows.
Sgrîn will be at the following venues for a free information afternoon between 1pm and 6pm: March 22, Mentec, Deiniol Road, Bangor; March 26, Morgan’s Hotel, Swansea; March 30, Gallery 301, Plas Coch, NEWI, Wrexham; April 19, Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff; and April 23, National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.
