Cambridge Film Festival Opens Today
Staring today, the Cambridge Film Festival is presenting a wide-ranging programme of films and special events.
This year's highlights include homages to Austria's Ulrich Seidl and the UK's Derek Jarman, a tribute to horror actor Boris Karloff, a selection of the finest Warner Bros. classics, Cambridge's first ever Machinima season and several of Poland's best new features.
A spokesman for the event, which has been running for almost three decades said: "Previously held in July, this year the Festival has moved to September and is celebrating these new dates with a series of exciting and innovative outdoor screenings throughout Cambridge."
He also said that, since July 2007, the Festival has been run by a registered charity, the Cambridge Film Trust with the event being the highlight of a year-round programme of initiatives that aim to bring challenging and provocative cinema to Cambridge and the England's Eastern region.
The Festival runs from 18-28 September with films that range from the iconic '2001: A Space Odyssey' from back in 1968 to 'Black Legion' from 1937, a hard-hitting, socially conscious drama, the sort of story that Warner Bros. made their hallmark in the 1930s, stars Humphrey Bogart and Erin O'Brien Moore, to the 2008 movie 'Bi The Way'. It follows the personal stories of five young people and explores the changing sexual landscape of America.
