Scottish Filmmaker 'Flying' At Cambridge Festival
An up-and-coming Scotland-based filmmaker has had her work selected to screen at the prestigious Cambridge Film Festival.
Andrea Harkin's 15-minute short film 'The Flyer' will be shown tonight, Friday 19 September, at 10.45pm in the European Shorts section.
Cambridge Film Festival (18-28 September 2008) is the highlight of a year-round programme of events that aim to bring challenging and provocative cinema to Cambridge and the Eastern region.
Directed by Andrea and produced by Julie McIntosh, 'The Flyer' was produced through Pilton Video's micro-budget high-definition scheme 'Streetwise'.
Aleksandra Kocela, the film's lead actress, won an award for Best First Time Performance and Andrea received a nomination for Best First Time Writer at the BAFTA Scotland's New Talent Awards earlier this year.
The film premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2008 in June and tells the story about Polish student Ana, who is working as hard as she can in order to get her boyfriend over to the UK.
The short has been described as a "very welcome addition to the growing mini genre of films about young Polish economic migrants in the UK".
Andrea is now going on to study the MA - Directing Fiction course at the National Film and Television School, starting in January 2009.
She is currently seeking funding and welcomes any advice from e-roughcuts readers or previous scholarship recipients. Please contact Andrea by e-mail [email protected].
