LEEDS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TO OPEN IN SEPTEMBER
The Leeds International Film Festival, organised by Leeds City Council, will be opening on September 27 2001, and it will be packed full of film, innovation, exploration and diversification.
Tantalising the taste buds of audiences this year will be over 180 events across the city divided into several strands to follow ranging from: Fanomenon to Evolution, Voices of the Cinema to Eureka and the Leeds Children’s Festival to UK Film Week.
The cultural heart of the Festival and the UK’s number one fantasy film feast, Fanomenon, this year focuses on Far-Eastern cinema, with blockbusters from Hong Kong, Japan, India and Korea. Some of the highlights will include the screening of ‘Battle Royale’ and ‘A War Named Desire’.
Celebrating and stimulating the potential of the UK film industry, will be UK Film Week. Featuring a retro focus on the acting career of Stanley Baker, the latest UK film ‘Crush’ starring Andie MacDowell, and a multitude of short films, UK Film Week proves there is a wealth of film talent in the UK bursting through.
The Third Children’s Film Festival will not only give the very best in children’s cinema, but will also provide plenty of opportunities for children to get hands on film experiences from animation to website design.
Providing an opportunity to discover a selection of the latest thrillers, comedies and art films from Europe will be the Eureka Strand. Showcasing shorts from across the continent, and films which would not normally be released in the UK every film is a highlight. (CD)
