New Irish Cinema Events Announced For Guth Gafa Documentary Film Festival

Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board is an industry partner again for the Guth Gafa Documentary Film Festival which takes place in Gortahork, Donegal this coming weekend 12th - 14th June.
A wide range of industry events are taking place over the duration of the weekend including two seminars 'Documentary cinema in Ireland and Europe - a case study and comparison' and 'Representing Reality Beyond Verité: new forms for documentary'
The seminar 'Documenting Cinema in Ireland and Europe' aims to compare documentary production, distribution and exhibition in Ireland with that in Europe, specifically Switzerland in order to find out what works (or doesn’t work) there and what can be learnt from their experiences.
The panel will consist of Alan Maher (IFB), Nell Roddy (Element Pictures), Niall McPherson (IFI), Remo Bräuchi, Swiss distributor (LookNow!, Zurich), Fernand Melgar, Swiss director/producer (The Fortress) and Fanny Bräuning, Swiss director (No More Smoke Signals) and will be chaired by David Rane (Guth Gafa Festival Director / Irish Producer) and Reto Stamm.
This panel will take place in Óstán Loch Altan’s Seminar Room on Saturday 13th June at 2pm.

A very diverse group of filmmakers participating in this year’s festival including François Verster (Seapoint Days), Fernand Melgar (The Fortress), Alan Grossman (Living in Direct Provision) and Aliona van der Horst (Boris Ryzhy) will present their work and their unique approaches to documentary storytelling in the seminar 'Representing Reality Beyond Verité' which takes place in Óstán Loch Altan Seminar Room on Saturday 13th June at 11.00am.

The panel will discuss films from pure cinema direct to essayistic forms, from digital mixed media to collaborative working methods and will be chaired by Reto Stamm (Guth Gafa Seminar Coordinator/ Swiss Documentary Director).

This year's festival also promises a rich and varied programme of quality international and Irish documentary premieres, with an emphasis on celebrating the power of the individual, of the community and of the unknown and unacknowledged people who set out to make a difference and change the world for the better.

Highlights of the programme include Today Is Better Than Two Tomorrows directed by Anna Rogers, Identities directed by Vittoria Colonna, Irish language documentaries such as Frederick Douglass Agus na Negroes Bána directed by John Doherty and Dermot Nevin and Irish short films such as A Film From My Parish - 6 Farms directed by Tony Donoghue. A full list of films screening over the weekend is available on the Guth Gafa festival website.
