Portobello Film Festival Brings A Summer Of Original Film

This year’s Portobello Film Festival (1 - 21 August) brings over 700 brand new independent productions to cinemas across London.
Events are taking place in various venues, including The Craze Gallery, Westbourne Grove Church and Ion Bar.
A new venue for the Portobello Film Festival this year is The Pelican on All Saints Road featuring special evenings of Spanish and London films. The festival kicks off with the premiere of Award-winning Moroccan romantic comedy Looking For Tomorrow, directed by Barney Platts-Mills. Other highlights include
  • A special screening of Julien Temple’s Joe Strummer biography, The Future Is Unwritten
  • The World premiere of Intervention featuring Ian Hart and Andy McDowall
  • A screening of John Maybury’s Love Is The Devil featuring Daniel Craig and Derek Jacobi
  • The UK premiere of controversial Indian Film, Parzania
  • An evening devoted to works by Filmmakers Against The War
  • The first UK showing of Woody Allen’s London-shot Scoop
On Monday 6 August Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) will present a talk and screening at Westbourne Studios. Rose Cupit, FLAMIN Manager, will discuss the LAFVA scheme and other funding opportunities available to artist film-makers in the capital, as well introducing a screening of recently completed LAFVA-funded work.
Throughout the festival a video café will be running at The Inn On The Green where film-makers can come along on the night and screen their movies.
There will also be a 24 Hour Film Challenge where film-makers will be given a title and a theme for a film to make in 24 hours that will be screened at the grand finale on Sunday 19 August at Westbourne Studios.
Entry to all events at the Portobello Film Festival is free.
