The Machine Room go 'Naked in Blackpool'

The Machine Room, the Soho-based full-service post facility, has recently posted the titles on a new series called ‘Naked in Blackpool’, for Pacific Television.
The six 60-minute programmes examine the intense rivalry between lap-dancing clubs in Blackpool’s burgeoning entertainment industry. The programme will air from October 312002 and will headline in Sky One’s Autumn line-up.
The Machine Room used a combination of telecine and digital visual effects to achieve highly saturated film-distorted stings for ‘Naked in Blackpool’. Following off-line editing, The Machine Room’s Gerry Gedge graded the Super 8 film using its Ursa Diamond telecine suite and John McLaren produced the series’ titles on the company’s new Discreet smoke v5 finishing system.
McLaren said: “The series used a lot of pre-prepared artwork which we then imported into smoke for final editing. While we were working with many different layers at one time, smoke allowed all the layering to be rendered in one pass, which saved us a great deal of time. In addition, having the 5D sparks for smoke enabled us to enhance what we had already achieved in telecine, and allowed us to offer the production team a variety of creative options.”
The Machine Room has over 11 years’ experience of providing professional services to the film, television and video markets. It offers clients - including Paramount, MGM, MTV and the BBC - highly experienced operators with cutting edge technology to provide non-linear editing facilities, HD post-production, DVD authoring and encoding and film mastering services.
