The Machine Room complete HD work on ‘Suzie Gold’

The Machine Room has completed HD transfer, grading and titles re-mastering for the forthcoming British movie, ‘Suzie Gold’.
Starring Summer Phoenix, Rebecca Front and Leo Gregory, and a cameo by Rachel Stevens, Suzie Gold is a romantic comedy set in North London that explores the struggle of a Jewish girl’s identity against the rigid expectations of her traditional family. The film has a UK release date of March 5 2004.
Distributed by Pathé, directed by Ric Cantor and produced by Rebecca Green, Suzie Gold follows on the back of a number of similar HD film titles recently posted at The Machine Room - including ‘Young Adam’, ‘The Good Thief’ and ‘Morvern Callar’.
The Machine Room’s colourist Jeff Burgess completed transfer in telecine and graded the movie from 35mm to HD D5. The grading took about two and a half days, with panning and scanning a further couple of days. The movie was then transferred to three HD formats. Burgess worked closely with the film’s director, Ric Cantor, using Thomson Shadow to achieve precisely the right look.
Cantor said: “I wanted a warm look to reflect the closeness of the family and the timelessness of their style of life. Jeff used warm pictures and strong blacks to achieve the look I was after. The results were spot on.”
The Machine Room Editor, John McLaren, then used smoke to re-master and de-spot the front titles sequence.
