Rushes Soho Shorts Festival Hits The Big Screen In London

The Rushes Soho Shorts Festival is once again set to be a dazzling showcase of UK film talent.
Short films by both acclaimed directors and new talent will grace screens throughout London as the week long festival opens on Saturday 28 July. Curzon Cinemas will support the festival with screenings held in the heart of the capital’s film and television quarter; Soho.
All of the screenings are free and will be held in a variety of exciting venues like Soho House and The Hospital. Other venues consist of cinemas, cafes, bars and screening rooms, giving the festival a uniquely intimate feel.
Some exceptional films to watch out for include 'The Sickie' featuring Toby Jones; 'Interior Bedsit Day', a fantasy comedy starring Ian Hart and Peter Gunn, as well as Trevor de Silva’s ‘Would like to Meet’ starring Maxine Peak, also seen in BBC hit comedy, 'Shameless'. The new documentary award sees work like 'Gone 2 Soon' from Dewi Bruce-Konuah, exploring the impact of the murder 15 year old Billy Cox on his community. In the animation category Shaun the Sheep makes a welcome return with 'Off the Baa' written by Chris Sadler.
This year the competition programme is further enhanced by a great selection of showcase screenings and events. The London Film Academy are doing master classes in post production / VFX at the Curzon Soho and the Apple Store on Regent street is home to classes such as ‘work your short film’. The Shooting People Pub Quiz at the Montague Pyke enables anybody to enter a team to join Rushes Soho Shorts for a great evening out. There are numerous other events all focused on the film industry throughout the week including Networking Nights.
Awareness of the talented work seen in the festival week is raised by the support of award presenters at the Awards Party held at the Café de Paris to finalize the event. These are also popular and respected names from the industry including Miranda Richardson, Tamer Hassan, Will Mellor, Jodie Albert and Simon McBurney. The festival is also indebted to the work of their spokespeople, who this year have been named as Legendry British Documentary maker Nick Broomfield and British actress Geraldine James OBE.
