South West Screen Launches Media Placement Scheme

South West Screen has announced the launch of a placement scheme for people aged 18 - 35 to take up traineeships with top media production companies in the South West.
The South West Attachment Scheme (SWATS) is a unique and exciting opportunity for the region’s most talented newcomers to develop their professional skills and gain invaluable work experience.
This 12 month programme provides industry-standard training through a range of company-based placements, work-based learning and short courses.
A total of 14 placements are being offered in ‘Production Assistant / Researcher’ and ‘Animation Assistant’ roles, to prepare highly motivated people for careers as freelance professionals. Companies throughout the South West are currently being selected to offer placements – last time companies including Aardman Animations, BBC Bristol, Twofour Productions in Plymouth and Bath-based Touch Productions took part.
Managed by South West Screen, the scheme provides full traineeship based on Skillset National Occupational Standards. Trainees will be given support from placement advisors and benefit from a tax free training allowance of £200 per week.
Caroline Norbury, Chief Executive of South West Screen said: "Ensuring that talented newcomers have the skills and experience necessary to succeed in the media industry is vital. The South West Attachment Scheme benefits not only the trainees but the production companies and the wider media industry in the South West. We are delighted to be offering the scheme for a third time."
Rosie Thomas, who took part in the scheme last year said: "The South West Attachment Scheme met all my aims and expectations and I am now working in the Natural History Unit of BBC Bristol as a researcher on a landmark series so all is going pretty well!"
The closing date for applications for the South West Attachment Scheme (SWATS) is Friday 22nd September 2006. Placements are due to start in early November and run for 12 months.
Applications are welcomed from all sections of the community.
