South West Screen launch education strategy
South West Screen have launched the South West Moving Image Education Strategy, at the Watershed Media Centre in Bristol.
As the regional screen agency responsible for leading the development of film, television and interactive media, South West Screen have put education at the heart of their cultural agenda.
The strategy has been written in consultation with a range of individuals, organisations and institutions involved in moving image education from across the South West. It recognises the excellent work which has already won the South West a national reputation and sets the framework for future growth and acclaim.
Caroline Norbury, Chief Executive of South West Screen, said: "This is an ambitious strategy for all of us working in Moving Image Education in the South West. Collaboration is the key to our success - success in producing the strategy and success in putting the action plan into practice. We're committed to developing lifelong learning opportunities for Moving Image Education, a wider audience for film and a dynamic environment in which new talent can thrive."
A key element of the strategy is the establishment of a network of 'Hubs' spread across the South West. Hubs are concentrations of Moving Image Education activity, bringing together education and industry, private and public sector organisations, Local Authorities and public agencies. The first two pilot Hubs, centred around Bristol and Exeter, are already evolving their distinctive networks and ways of collaborating. South West Screen aims to help support and develop these Hubs with local partners like Watershed Media Centre and Devon Curriculum Services, enabling them to become sustainable models of 'excellence' for other emerging new Hubs.
