Plymouth Media Partnership receives South West Screen funding

Plymouth Media Partnership, the organisation set up to promote the creative media industry in Plymouth and the surrounding area, has received financial support of £18,000 from South West Screen.
The money will be used to promote and support the sub-region’s cluster of multi-media production, broadcast and facility companies.
Paul Hassan, Director of Business and Development at South West Screen, said: “Plymouth is rapidly becoming an important centre for the creative industries. We are delighted to be in a position to support this exciting new initiative”
PMP Chairman, Mark Hawkins of twofourtv, added: “This financial support from South West Screen means that the Plymouth Media Partnership will be able to develop new ways to make the most of our talents by establishing one point of contact, and building links and commercial partnerships across the sub-region."
To develop the project PMP has appointed Karen Stockdale as part-time Co-ordinator. Previously Stockdale was the Director of the Celtic Film and Television Festival in Cornwall, and she has worked in local media for over 25 years for Plymouth Sound local radio, Westward Television, TSW, Westcountry and Carlton. She will continue her work as Development Director of Plymouth-based independent television production company, The Third Man, alongside her role within the Plymouth Media Partnership.
Sttockdale said: “This is an exciting opportunity for creative companies in the sub-region. The role of PMP will be to support the many businesses in Plymouth and the surrounding area in order to enable them to grow and prosper. Plymouth Media Partnership will encompass traditional broadcast television and radio companies, as well as digital creative content production companies, designers and facilitators.
“It is hoped that by pulling together a cluster of businesses and freelancers in the area it will be possible to develop large scale projects and win major business contracts for the area.
“We will be organising events to showcase talent and expertise in the region, and to allow local companies to network with each other and with potential commissioners and purchasers. ”
The Plymouth Media Partnership will be launched at a special event to be held at 12noon in the Barbican Theatre on November 6.
