QUARTZ ROUTERS CHOSEN FOR TELEGENIC OBS

UK based outside broadcast specialist Telegenic have purchased two Quartz Q128 routers for installation in its T1 12-camera OB scanner vehicle.
The installation forms part of a newly completed 'roof-to-tyre and bumper to bumper' refurbishment programme for the vehicle. Built in 1992 by Smith Great Bentley, T1 is a 12 metre rigid OB truck incorporating six digital VTRs, a disk-based video editor, a vision mixer, and an audio desk. Routing is via a 64 x 128 serial digital video Quartz Q128 and a 48 x 48 analogue Q6400. A major reason for Mike Spencer of Telegenic choosing the Q128 digital video router was its ultra-compact chassis, which measures just 150mm deep from its 12U front panel and occupies minimal space in the T1.
Three Quartz CP-6400 control panels provide access to the routers from various parts of the scanner. The CP-6400 is a 2U remote panel with eight-character high brightness LEDs. Button functions are individually programmable. Eight 1U CP-1000 panels provide additional local routing control in the T1 vehicle. Each has 16 separate pushbuttons with two rows of five character LCD displays that may be colour coded by the user to red, green or yellow at two brightness levels.
Following its successful implementation in T1, Quartz equipment has been chosen for Telegenic's larger T3 vehicle, which is currently being upgraded. Signal flow within the T3 will also be centred on a Q128 serial digital router.
Located in High Wycombe, west of London, Telegenic was founded in 1978. The company provides OB trucks, including crews, to broadcast networks such as BSkyB, ABC, CBS, ITV, ITN and the BBC.
Formed in 1990, Quartz Electronics Limited has achieved a high reputation for the reliability and flexibility of its routing and system-control equipment. Responding to customer needs, the company has produced solutions that match the technical and operational demands imposed in live broadcasting.
Quartz's expanding product range is designed to be cost-effective, versatile and space-efficient and is backed by high-grade technical support. As the company progresses into a second decade, its strategy is to apply engineering excellence to meet present and future broadcast requirements.
