ZDF covers Olympics with Quartz routers
World leaders in routing and master control Quartz Electronics recently provided a router system for the Special Events department at German TV Network, ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen), to cover a host of major sporting events across Europe this summer.
A Quartz Q256 Serial Digital Video router will be employed in a portable system, travelling across Europe in custom-built transport cases and working in conjunction with several large OB Trucks in Germany, including Wige Data and WDR, allowing ZDF to set up the system by individual requirement. ZDF has already provided production work on such events as Euro2004 football in Portugal and is due to take the kit to the Athens Olympics.
Configured as 256x256 for ZDF, the system includes redundant controllers and power supplies with a Topaz SDI router and digital audio router supplied as part of the package.
The new system will also use Quartz intelligent CP-1000 control panels. These are based on LCD button technology, pioneered by Quartz for router systems, and providing intelligent menus and automatic re-legending of buttons.
ZDF purchased the Quartz Q256 because of its rugged and stable construction as well as the flexibility in terms of configuration and control. The Q256's built-in diagnostic system also gives ZDF the security of smooth operation.
Quartz is a leading provider of routers and master control switchers with a product portfolio that includes a wide variety of routers, sizes, panels and signal formats, including HDTV. The company is focused on raising customer satisfaction in the global broadcast industry through innovative product design and expert technical support.
ZDF is a public network channel broadcasting nationwide programs focusing on information and culture.
