RHODRI MORGAN CELEBRATES CYFLE’S ACHIEVEMENTS

WELSH First Minister, Rhodri Morgan AM, was in Caernarfon on Thursday, May 10, to present some of the first people to benefit from Objective 1 funding with their NVQ certificates.
The individuals were on the Cyfle training scheme for new entrants into the Welsh film, television and new media industry during 2000, which was one of the first projects to receive Objective 1 funding.
In congratulating the individuals on successfully completing their training and moving into employment, Rhodri Morgan emphasised the fact that the National Assembly for Wales acknowledges the need to support new developing industry sectors, such as the media, which are the basis of the future economic prosperity of Wales.
He said: “Cyfle has used Objective 1 funding to establish an innovative training programme which provide young people with skills for the future.”
Also present at the ceremony was Huw Jones, Chief Executive of S4C, who emphasised the importance of Cyfle and the success of its vocational training schemes: “The co-operation which has happened between S4C, the independent producers and the unions, through Cyfle has created a model for training that the television industry outside Wales sees as one from which they can learn and copy. Cyfle’s new entrant scheme provides an invaluable foundation for the aspirations of S4C of ensuring that there is a flow of talent in both the craft and creative grades for the television programmes of the future.”
During his visit to Cyfle, Rhodri Morgan also officially opened the company’s new training facilities and offices at Gronant, Penrallt Isaf, in Caernarfon, by unveiling an ‘englyn’ by Gerallt Lloyd Owen.
The new training facilities and offices are located on the site of a former café and
launderette. In addition to providing the company with more space, the move now provides visitors with full disabled access.
