AMEK MEDIA 51 SINGS SWEDISH SKYLARK

AMEK, the British-based manufacturers of professional audio mixing consoles and signal processing devices, have supplied a Media 51 multi-format analogue console to Skylark Studios in Sweden, for their new facility in Norrkoping, south of Stockholm.
The new studio, owned by producers/arrangers Lars Svantesson and recording engineer Ronnie Roos, has been established as one of the most flexible in Scandanavia, with the project requiring an automated, surround-capable console that could handle the studio’s full range of productions, including DVD, film and video projects.
Svantesson said: “We evaluated a number of possible consoles, selecting the AMEK Media 51 as having, in our opinion, the best sound quality in its price category. It really does cost a zero less than it sounds. Add the sound quality to its surround flexibility, and it represents an unbeatable combination. The Media 51 has certainly helped us to fulfil our vision of versatile and future-proof, world class facility, able to produce quality results for all types of music and sound-to-picture productions.”
Complementing the AMEK Media 51’s capabilities, and in line with Skylark Studios ethos of flexibility, the new facility is equipped with a broad range of recording and editing systems. These include a Pro Tools system – principally used for music editing at the main studio, and by some clients as their prime recording medium – plus four Fostex D-160 16-track disk-based recorder/editors and Alesis ADAT systems, as well as Fostex and Marantz DAT and CDR units. Skylark Studios’ policy is to enable all customers to work with their preferred recording format, with projects being transferred as necessary between the various systems.
The studios’ surround sound monitoring utilises a Genelec loudspeaker system, while the extensive choice of microphones encompasses models from AKG, Neumann, Shure and Sennheiser.
Skylark’s outboard equipment features a number of audio processing classics, including compressor/limiters from Summit and TL Audio, a Focusrite EQ and an EMT-Goldplate – on the musical instrument front the studio also has a large selection of keyboards/synthesisers and percussion. (CD)
