Spirit Studios Opens With Two Full ICON And Pro Tools Systems

Spirit Studios, a newly-opened facility located in the West End's media village, has opened its operations with two full ICON and Pro Tools systems.
Installed by Scrub, HHB's specialist audio-post division, the two recently-completed control rooms each feature a 24-fader ICON D-Command console with Pro Tools HD3 Accel and Mojo.
The brainchild of Soho studio veterans Cliff Rossiter and Andrew Ebel, work began on Spirit in 2005 when the pair decided open their own facility as a base for their music and post-production work.
The impressive 4000 square foot facility is designed to be capable of a broad range of applications, and houses two oversized control rooms and large recording booths, making it ideal for a full range of applications from post-production and sound design through to music and voice recording.
Although there was a clear need for a flexible and versatile system to cover the varied work requirements, for Spirit co-owner Cliff Rossiter, there was never any question about the choice of equipment.
"After working with Pro Tools for years we just knew that was going to be the route to go down," said Rossiter. "Then, last summer as we began specifying the hardware requirements, we talked with Ben at Scrub and he told us about the D-Command."
Eager to find a suitable control surface for their Pro Tools systems that
met their requirements for a small footprint and a keen price, the D-Command console with its deep integration with Pro Tools became another easy choice for Spirit.
"It's perfect," said Rossiter. "In terms of size and price it fits our needs exactly. Essentially, it does everything we need it to in providing an effective control surface for our HD3 system."
Andrew Ebel, Cliff's partner in Spirit, adds that D-Command has also assisted the workflow process. "The console definitely enhances the flexibility and usability of Pro Tools, improving information access and parameter change with seamless integration," Ebel said.
Recent projects completed by Spirit include music and post-production for
'Wooden Spoon Faces', a two-minute film for the Rugby Union Charity, and post-production for a short film as part of the upcoming 'Gangs of London' PS2 release.
