Bright start for Plymouth Media-Partnership

Plymouth Media-Partnership (PM-P), the organisation set up to promote the digital and creative content industries in Plymouth and the surrounding area, has attracted 120 members in the first two months of operation.
This new organisation aims to support the creative content industries by providing networking opportunities, promotional events, access to training and technology, and business advice. The initiative is supported by South West Screen and the South West Regional Development Agency.
The objective is to develop a networking forum to foster links and commercial partnerships amongst creative industries, supporting a broad range of sectors including television, film and radio, facilities houses, interactive media, animation, website design, marketing design and music composers. A high profile launch held at the Barbican Theatre in November was followed by a well-attended event in December, when media and new media producers were given an opportunity to meet one of the key executives at Channel 4, Stuart Cosgrove, the Director of Nations and Regions. There was also a chance to see how Bristol-based independent production company, Available Light, has developed a brand new website for the broadcaster.
Karen Stockdale, the co-ordinator for PM-P said "This was a fantastic opportunity for producers in the South West to meet one of the movers and shakers of the broadcasting industry. Events like this are an excellent way of enabling companies based in the area to reach out to new markets. It's certainly much more efficient than 30 different production companies travelling to London to meet a single buyer, and very productive for purchasers because they can meet many suppliers at one time."
A strong programme of events is lined up for 2004, beginning with ‘2004: Future Technology" at the University of Plymouth on Wednesday January 21 at 7pm. Producers will be able to see how network-enabled wireless broadband technology can be used to deliver tourist services. Speakers from mPower and Node based in Bristol will demonstrate how the visitors to the Bristol Ferry Boat Company were able to use this new technology to access the rich history of the Bristol docks, learn from compelling natural history information, hear fascinating narratives about the harbourside, and interact with each other and with the ferry staff.
The event is open to members of Plymouth Media-Partnership and students. To register as a member or to reserve a place at this event contact: +44 (0) 1752 346530 or Email: [email protected]
