Edinburgh to host Cineworks event

On September 14 the Dominion Cinema in Edinburgh will host the Cineworks event, a short film production initiative that commissions five original and innovative films each year from emergent Scottish talent in the disciplines of drama, documentary and animation.
It is run by the Glasgow Media Access Centre (G-Mac) and Edinburgh Mediabase and in association with BBC Scotland, the Film Council and Scottish Screen.
The closing date for receipt of applications for Cineworks 2003 is October 28 2002.
An open event to inspire and inform new filmmakers who may wish to apply for the scheme is being held on September 14 at the Dominion Cinema in Edinburgh.
Paul Ryan, Edinburgh Mediabase Co-ordinator, said: "The idea behind the event is to bring the training that is normally offered to Cineworks shortlisted applicants forward so that it is available to the general public. The event will enable potential applicants to meet with industry professionals who will share their experiences on delivering quality applications."
The day will be split into three sections. In the morning Stephen Cleary, a script expert, will give a lecture on story development. In the afternoon there will be three seminars on documentary, drama and animation by established international filmmakers. Confirmed speakers include award winning Newcastle based drama director Duane Hopkins, Scottish documentary maker Amy Hardie, recipient of a Creative Scotland Award and Bafta award winning animator Campbell McAllister.
The final session will deliver information for applicants on making an application to the scheme and will be followed by a reception.
What's more a filmmakers info-pack with advice on all the topics covered will be available on the day.
