Dr Richard Holloway Appointed Chair Of Scottish Arts Council And Scottish Screen
The Scottish Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Patricia Ferguson, has announced the appointment of Dr Richard Holloway to be the Chair of a new joint board for the Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen.
Dr Holloway is currently the Chair of the Scottish Arts Council, appointed in 2005, and is a Director of the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow. He has also been a board member of the Broadcasting Standards Commission.
Dr Holloway will oversee the development of increasing joint working between the two organisations. This is part of Ministers' proposals to establish a new single national cultural development body, 'Creative Scotland'.
The establishment of Creative Scotland will need legislation, but in the interim period Ministers have appointed Dr Holloway to lead the two organisations through this process of integration and change.
Welcoming the appointment, Ms Ferguson said: "I am delighted to appoint Dr Holloway to this challenging position. At this significant time for both the cultural and screen sectors, I feel sure that Richard's leadership experience and his conviction and passion for culture will enable the joint board to make the transition a positive one."
Dr Holloway said: "As Chair of the new board for the Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen, I believe I can continue to help in moving the two bodies forward in achieving their ambitious and increasingly shared objectives. I look forward to working with the cultural and screen sectors in taking forward this vision."
Ken Hay, Chief Executive of Scottish Screen said: "We welcome the news that Richard Holloway has been appointed Chair of the new coterminus Board of Scottish Screen and the Scottish Arts Council.
"This is the first step in driving forward the progress towards Creative Scotland, with the next step being the appointment of the rest of the Board. We look forward to working with Richard in his new role."
