Scottish drama collects Mental Health Media Award
'Leonard', a true-life drama production from the Scottish Screen/Grampian Television New Found Land talent scheme, has won best drama at the recent 9th Annual Mental Health Media Awards in London.
The awards recognise "powerful programmes and portrayals that have an impact which last long after their original broadcast. They generate discussion, shatter misconceptions, illuminate thinking and inspire real change."
Winners of Mental Health Media Awards are described as those which dare to challenge misinformation and stereotypes, and which include the "voice and experience of people with mental health problems."
The screenplay for Leonard was written by Richard Smith, directed by Brian Kelly and produced by Gill Parry.
The film was first screened at the 2001 Edinburgh International Film Festival, after which critics agreed it was "one of the best short films at the festival."
