Scottish Screen funded film to open Edinburgh Film Festival

For the second year running a Scottish Screen lottery funded film will have the honour of opening the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
'Young Adam', the second feature from gifted young director David Mackenzie, starring Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton and Peter Mullan, has been chosen as the opening gala film by the EIFF's Artistic Director Shane Danielsen.
Last year Lynne Ramsay's 'Morvern Callar' , another Scottish Screen lottery funded production, was chosen to fill this important opening spot.
Steve McIntyre, Chief Executive of Scottish Screen is delighted that these two exciting and quite different films have been chosen.
He said: "I think Young Adam will do very well both at the box office and with the critics, it is a dramatic story with commanding performances from its three lead stars. Scottish Screen is proud to have been involved so closely with both Young Adam and Morvern Callar It is a great accolade for the skills of two talented young directors that their second features should be chosen against stiff competition to open this most prestigious film festival."
