Set-Jet To Hampshire
Film Hampshire, the Economic Development Office project which encourages film-makers to use locations in Hampshire, has just released a film map for visitors to the region.
Film-lovers can now follow in the foot-steps of the stars by visiting some of the locations in Hampshire which have featured on the screen. These locations have been put together to build a film map for Hampshire which can be downloaded from the Film Hampshire website.
Who would have thought that it would be possible to visit both the Vatican and the North-South Korea border in Hampshire. These locations portrayed in films were actually in the county, with Winchester Cathedral doubling as the famous Italian basilica in the Da Vinci Code and Hawley in North Hampshire providing the opening scenes for James Bond Die Another Day.
Other locations featured on the map come from much-loved television series such as Howards Way and its locations in Hamble and Ruth Rendell’s Inspector Wexford dramas that were filmed at locations in and around Romsey.
Spending on film production in the South East region for 08/09 was over £76 million and 77% of Britons say they have chosen holiday destinations as a result of reading about them in a novel or seeing them in a movie or TV series.
Thanks to the Film Hampshire’s efforts, filming enquiries to the office have doubled over the past year to over 200.
Recent filming in the county has included Foyle's War in Odiham and Ridley Scott's newest venture Robin Hood due to be released next year.
The Hampshire Film Map can be downloaded from: www.filmhampshire.org.uk.
