Northwestern England's forest locations branch into film

The Forestry Commission, which owns some 40,000 acres of land throughout the northwest England, are encouraging film-makers to use their varied landscapes as the setting for their latest projects.
Forestry representatives have met with the Film Commission in London to take advice about the most effective way to attract the industry's leading location scouts.
They are to put together a package which highlights the distinct types of forest locations on offer - from mature broadleaf forests which are ideal settings for medieval 'Robin Hood'-type productions, to coniferous woodlands which could easily pass for a North American setting.
Forestry Commission foreman Paul Clavey, who has been appointed film liaison officer, said: "The area offers tremendous potential for a whole range of filming opportunities. We've already had quite a few film companies who've approached us on a one-off basis in the past and asked if they could film on our land and we've been happy to help out if it's been appropriate. But now we've decided to go out and actively market ourselves in a co-ordinated way to the industry."
