South West film locations to be showcased
South West film locations are being shown off next week as South West Screen, Bristol and Bath Film Offices and Cornwall Film join forces to promote the region to producers and directors.
All four organisations will be promoting South West England at the Broadcast Production Show (June 1-3) which takes place at Earl’s Court in London. They will also be working in partnership with a range of film friendly local authorities including Cheltenham Borough Council, Exeter City Council, Kennet District Council, Torbay Council, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and Gloucestershire First, and have all provided funding and other support.
South West-based breweries and vineyards have also done their bit to help promote the region through providing samples for a ‘Taste of the South West’ wine and beer tasting twice a day. Oak Valley Wines in Cornwall, Oatley Vineyard and Cotleigh Brewery in Somerset and Freeminer Brewery in the Forest of Dean are among those supporting the event.
Location managers are being encouraged to visit the South West England stand and to enter a raffle for prizes such as dinner, bed and breakfast in a top-notch hotel, a short break package, air flights, and a ‘Taste of the West’ hamper.
This comes as South West Screen prepares to launch its online locations library, giving producers and directors easy access to information and details about a broad range of registered locations and properties. This comprehensive guide, supported by the South West Regional Development Agency, will showcase thousands of locations ranging from stately homes to traditional harbours when it is officially launched on May 26.
Location Manager Rob Champion said: “It is great to see that so many organisations are coming together to promote the South West at this year’s Production Show. With so much diversity of rural and urban locations, and the talent to back it up, the region has such a lot to offer producers”.
Bristol Film Office is also launching its own online locations guide, featuring a range of properties and buildings from the city and surrounding area. This together with its existing online crew and facilities database, now run in partnership with other regional organisations, provides the industry with a valuable resource when working in the South West.
