Ciprico and Incite launch shared storage solution at IBC

Ciprico and Incite Multimedia have presented "revolutionary solutions" for increasing production workflow in shared storage environments.
Using Ciprico’s DiMeda 2400 and new Incite products like Incite Editor 3.0, Incite Remote Producer, and Incite Newsmaker, these combinations, say the partners, represent a dramatic step forward in applying mainstream IT concepts toward video and audio production for newsrooms, corporate enterprises, and educational facilities because of its cost-effectiveness, expandability, and versatility.
Ciprico DiMeda 2400, the first of a new line of Digital Media Appliances that address the growing need for shared storage in broadcast and post-production, non-linear editing environments by offering high performance media file sharing over Gigabit Ethernet. Traditionally, editors in the broadcast and post-production industry have installed a Storage Area Network (SAN) for online real-time editing applications and a NAS (Network Attached Storage) for offline and non-real-time file sharing applications. DiMeda 2400 bridges the gap and provides a single solution for both online and offline applications in DV25 video format. Ciprico claim significant cost savings due to the low total cost of ownership and as the first solution to deliver bandwidth performance previously only available from SAN, that it is a perfect solution for mid-sized network environments.
The Incite product family offers production houses a total solution for end-to-end production. Incite Remote Producer and Incite Newsmaker are entirely software-based editing applications designed for laptops and PCs, taking advantage of full motion DV editing on a Gigabit network. In addition, Gigabit is an excellent medium for exchanging projects between Incite applications, bridging Incite’s hardware-based editors with software-based editors and applications. For example, Incite editors can cut versions of their projects on Incite Remote Producer or Incite Newsmaker and then open the same project on Incite News, Incite Editor or Incite HD Suite for final finishing. This ability to exchange projects, transparently preserving metadata between diverse media formats is all due to Incite’s dynamic database architecture.
The technology partnership announced at IBC between Ciprico and Incite Multimedia will see the pair work closely to provide solutions to the broadcast market.
Both the companies have carried out extensive tests on the DiMeda 2400 in a multi-seat edit environment running INCITE editing applications on multiple workstations.
