Sysmedia Powers Subtitling In 23 Languages On EU Parliament TV

Mostra, which last year won the contract to supply the audio-visual services behind EuroparlTV, the European Parliament's web TV news services, has successfully deployed SysMedia's WinCAPS software to deliver subtitling in all 23 official EU languages.
Brussels-based Mostra won the contract to supply the services behind the three web-TV-based European Parliament channels: Your Parliament (news channel); Young Europe (for 10-16 year-olds); and Your Voice (which gathers opinions on EU matters). All of the content has to be translated into the official languages of the EU, a major task.
Nick Oosterlinck, Language Service Manager for EuroparlTV, said: "Our main challenge is to get this translation completed - accurately - within the required timescale because the content has to appear online as quickly as possible. Much of our content is news so we are talking a 24-hour deadline for all 23 languages."
The company has purchased 45 WinCAPS software licenses for its in-house team of 22 translators and network of freelancers to complete the work. Oosterlinck explained: "Our main freelancers also user WinCAPS."
Once the subtitles are created using templates designed by the Mostra pivot team they are checked then exported to a server. Twofour, the London-based media company that manages the website, then grabs the content from the server and places it online.

It supports a comprehensive range of media and file formats, ensuring compatibility with all production and delivery requirements. WinCAPS blends the human skills of the subtitler or translator with state-of-the-art audiovisual analysis and speech processing.
Oosterlinck concluded: "WinCAPS has a very good reputation. I have worked with the software for many years and was happy to recommend it when I was hired for this project."
