Renee Wows Berlin Film Premier
A hotly-tipped new movie, starring Texas-born movie star Renee Zellweger, almost didn't make it to a major German film festival.
'My One And Only' was a last-minute entry at the Berlin Festival, where it is competing for the top Golden Bear honour.
The star, who walked the red carpet for the film's premiere on Thursday night, said she jumped at the chance to play the character of an 1950s housewife Ann, who leaves her husband and takes her teenage sons on a cross-country trip.
"I absolutely couldn't wait to play her," the 39-year-old Oscar winner said at the premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, adding: "The material is gorgeous."
Renee, who wore a red dress to the glitzy event, went on: "I play this woman who doesn't recognise her own value and is certain that she needs to depend on others to get by, who goes on this journey, and I think it's a journey of self discovery."
The movie, based loosely on actor George Hamilton's tale of how his mother brought him and a brother to Hollywood, also stars Kevin Bacon, Mark Rendall and Logan Lerman and was directed by Richard Loncraine, who confirmed that 'My One And Only' was only entered for the last available opportunity.
It is now competing against 17 other films for the top honour in Berlin.
