Irish Star Recognised At International Berlin Film Festival
Actor Pádraic Delaney, who starred in the hit film 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley', has been chosen as the Irish Shooting Star for 2007, at the International Berlin Film Festival.
The Shooting Star programme is organised by European Film Promotion (EFP) and recognises the talents of up and coming young actors from 21 European countries at the Berlin Film Festival every year. The event provides an opportunity for each Shooting Star to meet individually with the press, to be introduced to a host of European casting directors at an industry breakfast event and to meet key industry guests at the renowned annual Shooting Stars Gala. Each Shooting Star is also presented with an Award recognising the actors’ achievements to date.
Delaney graduated with a BA in Drama and Theatre Studies from the Samuel Beckett Centre in Trinity College Dublin. He has worked in a variety of Irish TV productions most notably as the lead in 'Legend', a gritty TV drama for RTE. He recently starred opposite Cillian Murphy in Ken Loach’s 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley' which won the Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Delaney has recently completed filming the role of George Boleyn in 'The Tudors' for Showtime/Working Title with Jonathan Rhys Myers and is set to star in 'Foxes', a Czech/Irish co-production this year.
Other Irish actors recently nominated for major prizes include Cillian Murphy and Eva Birththisle, who were nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star award. The BAFTAS will take place in February 11.
2007 is the tenth anniversary of the Shooting Stars programme. The 2007 Berlin International Film Festival runs from 8-18 February.
