Berlin Film Festival award for Solanas

This year, the jury of the 54th Berlin International Film Festival awarded an Honorary Golden Bear to world-renowned Argentinean filmmaker Fernando Solanas to celebrate more than three decades of achievement within the industry.
In celebration, his powerful and most recent documentary film, ‘Memoria del Saqueo’ (A Social Genocide), was screened directly after the award presentation.
Memoria del Saqueo, which focuses on the wave of recent crises, economic and otherwise, that have hit Solanas’s beleaguered home country, was posted at Zurich-based postproduction house, Swiss Effects. Led by company founder Ruedi Schick, the Swiss Effects team used Quantel’s eQ to produce all the titling and effects work in HD, as well as uprezing footage for cinematic release.
“There was quite a lot of archive footage used in the film,” explained Schick. “There was film itself, video and NTSC – quite a mix – which was a bit of a challenge so work with. There was also a lot of titles that needed to be done, a large amount of compositing, plus we used QColor for some correction work. It was a good project to work on though and a great experience to work with a director like Solanas.”
