Pioneer Introduces New Qflix-Enabled Drives

Sonic Solutions, a leading provider of digital media software, has announced that Pioneer Electronics, has introduced two DVD/CD computer writers featuring Sonic's Qflix technology.
The new Pioneer internal DVR-2920Q and external DVR-X162Q DVD/CD writers will enable consumers to download and burn DVDs of their favourite Hollywood movies from CinemaNow for playback on standard and high-definition DVD players. The writers will be available at major retailers and direct from Pioneer at: www.pioneerelectronics.com.
Pioneer becomes the latest major manufacturer to introduce Qflix-enabled drives. Last month, Dell announced the availability of a Qflix drive bundle, which is an option on most Inspiron, Studio and XPS laptops and sold through Dell's Entertainment, Software and Accessories online store.
Steven Cohn, Director of Optical Sales for Pioneer Electronics (USA), said: "Our new line of Pioneer computer DVD burners featuring Qflix technology gives movie fans a seamless way to download and own their favourite Hollywood hits for viewing beyond the PC to DVD players throughout the house.
"With more and more Hollywood hits, television shows and independent movies becoming available in the near future, our burners will also provide consumers a convenient method to expand their disc libraries without the long search time and footwork."
The new Pioneer writers provide a means for home audiences to download and preserve content to DVD for playback on all standard and high-definition players. The result is a richer viewing experience that transcends current digital delivery entertainment options.
Mark Ely, Executive Vice President of Strategy, Sonic Solutions, said: "We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Pioneer to bring Qflix-enabled products to market. Support from major manufacturers like Pioneer will help to further establish Qflix as the symbol for consumers looking for compatible and convenient 'purchase, download and burn' solutions."
To streamline the user experience, both Pioneer drives incorporate Roxio Venue software that provides simplified management and writing of downloaded digital content.
Also included in the software bundle are applications that allow users to back-up and play their disc media on a PC via the Roxio CinePlayer and Easy CD & DVD Burning software.
Further information is available at: www.qflix.com and www.sonic.com.
