'Don't Forget DVDs', Says BVA
The industry has been urged to not overlook discs during the soar in new delivery systems.
The Chairman of the British Video Association, Charlie McAuley, has said that new delivery systems although important to the video industry can not overshadow the fact that people still like packaged media.
This comes at a time when Love Film and Netflix battle it out for content to stream to UK viewers and just after UltraViolet launch their new technology in the UK after a successful implementation in the US.
In a speech to the trade group’s AGM, McAuley, who also is Paramount Home Entertainment UK & Ireland VP/Managing Director, said that although the BVA needs to ensure it supports new and legitimate business models on behalf of its members, it is important not to overlook the role of DVD, Blu-ray and 3D physical discs.
McAuley said that he did not wish to come across as unfashionable but most consumers still purchase and enjoy content this way and the disc could be around for some time to come.
