TAC Appoints Gwion Owain

TAC, the trade association for Welsh independent producers has announced the appointment of Gwion Owain, as the new Chief Executive of the organization. Owain, 32 is originally from Penygroes, Gwynedd, but now resides in Cardiff, has joined the organisation at an exiting time for producers across Wales as they face the many challenges associated with the development of the digital age.
Owain, who has a degree in Law from Aberystwyth University and a Post Graduate Qualification in Management, previously worked as the manager for MEDIA in Wales for five years. During this period, he managed to attract over £3million direct funding for developing and co-producing programmes for the international market. In addition, MEDIA attracted over £13million in match funding from other broadcasters, distributors and financiers.
Owain said: "I’m very glad to be leading the organisation at such an exiting period for creative industries in Wales and my new role will offer the opportunity to further serve the film, television and media sectors. As an industry, we need to face the challenges ahead and maximise the skills we have within the creative sector in Wales to compete effectively for commissions and to explore and target new markets."
Dafydd Rhys, Chairman of TAC said: "TAC is very pleased to welcome this new appointment. Gwion is a young man with a strong vision for the future to lead the sector in this brave new world of mass communication."
