Skillset Media Academy Wales Appoints Panel Boss
The new Industry Panel Chair of Skillset Media Academy Wales has been announced.
He is BBC Cymru Wales' Head of Production and Business Development, David Mackie.
He is responsible for approximately 400 staff working across local and network output at the BBC, and will now lead the panel in advising the Media Academy on the most industry-relevant ways to structure media training and maintain strong links with industry.
One of David's aims at BBC Cymru Wales is to make sure staff can work flexibly between genres and in a variety of roles, demonstrating his long-held interest in ensuring the highest possible standards of training design and delivery.
Skillset Cymru Director, Gwawr Hughes, said: "The Skillset Screen and Media Academies have now merged to provide high-level industry training for the creative industries in Wales making this an ideal time to welcome David as the new Chair of the Skillset Media Academy Wales Industry Panel.
"His many years of work at the BBC have shown his strong commitment to training for media professionals. We look forward to empowering David to continue with that commitment in his new role."
Project Manager for the Skillset Media Academy Wales, Hannah Raybould, said: "We look forward to now working with David to make sure that the newly merged Academy maintains its position as a provider of the most industry-focused education for media disciplines available in Wales."
The appointment comes as the Media Academy launches a new online network for students, graduates and industry at the beginning of the new academic year.
For the first time, students and graduates of the Academy will be able to promote their work through a searchable database, interact with industry and collaborate with students from other courses.
David Mackie commented on the news: "The creative industries play an important and growing role in Wales and it is paramount that the best possible support is provided to allow Wales-based talent to flourish.
"The Media Academy industry panel has shown the importance of focusing education and training provision to meet the needs of the industry in Wales and I very much look forward to working with them to build on their success to date."
