New Appointments To Film Agency For Wales

Daniel Thomas and Sue Milford have joined the management team of the recently established Film Agency for Wales. The four-strong agency management team, headed up by Chief Executive Pauline Burt, is based in Cardiff Bay and is responsible for the promoting a successful and forward-looking film industry in Wales.
Thomas, 33, who was born in Cardiff but lived much of his life in the Lake District, has returned to Wales as the agency’s Audience Development Manager. With a postgraduate certificate in Film Journalism from the British Film Institute and a First Class BA Joint Honours degree in Film and Creative Writing, Daniel is well versed in the creative film sector. His previous roles have taken him across the length and breadth of the UK.
He commenced his career as an Assistant Marketing Manager in Slough before moving on to become Marketing Manager for UGC in Sheffield. He then spent 3 years in London’s West End as a Cinema Business Manager. Most recently he has been working in Southwest Scotland promoting film programming, marketing and education initiatives on behalf of Scottish Screen.
In his role for the Film Agency for Wales Daniel will be responsible for enhancing the profile of Welsh filmmaking talent in Wales, elsewhere in the UK and overseas; for implementing the agency’s strategy for increasing and enhancing audience access to specialist film across Wales; and for liasing with and supporting the exhibition, film festival and film education sector.
The agency receives its core funding from The Arts Council of Wales, the National Assembly for Wales and the UK Film Council. Part of its remit includes the distribution of funds through grants and equity investments to stimulate creative talent and projects.
As finance manager, Milford will keep a close eye on the agency’s budgets and financial matters. Milford is an Accountancy and Financial Management graduate and a Chartered Accountant who has worked in the Cardiff business community for over 20 years. She has held various positions as Finance Director of local companies, Partner in a firm of Chartered Accountants and currently also runs her own practice Isis Chartered Accountants. She therefore brings a wealth of business and finance experience to the Agency. Sue lives in Cyncoed and is single with three children.
Burt, Chief Executive, Film Agency for Wales, commented: “This is a highly exciting time for the Film Agency for Wales. Being recently established it is crucial that we appoint an experienced, strong, capable and effective management team. With Daniel and Sue on board I am confident that we have the necessary broad spectrum of skills to deliver a comprehensive and stimulating service to the burgeoning Welsh film industry.”
