CHRIS AKERS BUYS INTO EXTREME GROUP
EXTREME Group Limited have announced that Chris Akers has acquired a five per cent stake in the Extreme, and has agreed to become the company's Executive Chairman.
Extreme, which recently launched the Extreme Sports Channel, say that their combination of sports and media interests is suited to Akers’ financial and marketing skills. Akers previously been directed towards the successful floatation and development of Leeds Sporting Plc, Sportsworld Media Group Plc, Virtual Internet Plc, InTechnology Plc and Sports Internet Group Plc.
Alistair Gosling, Extreme’s CEO, said: “Chris and I have been waiting for the opportunity to work together for a number of years and I am absolutely delighted to have him on the team. With Chris' talents and contacts, we can continue to expand Extreme on a global level, maintain the very rapid growth of our existing activities, develop and acquire new assets in all of the major markets worldwide.”
Akers will oversee the Group’s board, which will include several new executive and non-executive appointments. On a day-to-day basis, he will be responsible for corporate business development, investor relations and positioning the company for potential external investors.
Akers said: “I am delighted to be joining the Board of Extreme Group as the Chairman at such an exciting time when both the Group and the extreme sports sector are enjoying such dynamic growth. I share the Group's belief that it is very well placed to become the major global media player in the Extreme Sports media sector, with the continuing expansion and worldwide roll out of the Extreme Sports Channel, Extreme.com, World Extreme Games and Extreme International.”
