CORK FILM FESTIVAL WINS AT BOX OFFICE

ORGANISERS of the recent 45th Murphy’s Cork Film Festival have announced that box office figures rose by 15 per cent this year.
The Cork Film Festival, attracting the support of several sponsors, had an award package for short films, including cash, facilities and resources, that amounted to around £57,000.
The Jameson Award for ‘Best International Short Film’ valued at £20,000 went to the animated short ‘Brother’ directed by Adam Elliot from Australia.
In the Black and White categories, the award for ‘Best Black & White Short Film’ was shared by ‘Love is All’, directed by Oliver Harrison, and ‘Pieces Of My Wife’, directed by Frederic Pelle. Dragos-Bogdan Luga from Romania, took the award for ‘Best Black & White Cinematography’ for his short film ‘No’.
The Award for ‘Best Irish Short Film’, in association with Anner International, at a value of £25,500 was given to Ian Power for the film ‘Buskers’.
The Claire Lynch Award for ‘Best First Short Film’ by an Irish Director, with a value of £8,500 went to ‘What Are You Looking At?’, directed by Tony Kelly.
Commendations in the ‘Best First Film’ category went to ‘Therapy’, by Julie Harris, with special commendations for Fiona Glascott on her performance in ‘Fatboy and Twintub’ and for the Irish language film ‘Filleann an Feal’, directed by Frankie McCafferty.
The ‘Made In Cork Award’ was shared by ‘A Short Break’, directed by Frank Beechinor and ‘The Denim Queen’s Wet Dream’, by Stephen McConnell and had a value of £2000.
Building on their reputation as promoters of new filmmaking talent, domestic and international, with their extensive short film programmes and their much developed significant awards package the 45th Murphy’s Cork Film Festival again reached a very high standard.
