Jerwood and First Film launch short film prize
THE First Film Foundation and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation have announced the launch of the Jerwood First Film Shorts Prize.
This new screenwriting programme will provide development support and free training for new short film writers and their projects.
The initiative will offer high-level script development training in a series of special workshops and at least one of the projects developed through the prize will be considered for the BBC Production Prize.
Sixteen writers from throughout the UK will be selected, while additional free training in script development skills will be available to up to four producer/writer/director teams. On completion of the workshops First Film Foundation will promote the writers and their completed projects to producers and financiers of short films, with the intention of moving as many of the developed projects into production as possible.
The Jerwood Charitable Foundation is dedicated to imaginative and responsible funding and sponsorship of the arts, education, design, conservation, medicine, engineering, science and other areas of human endeavour and excellence.
Applications and further details are also available by sending a stamped SAE (A4 size envelope) to First Film Foundation, 9 Bourlet Close, London W1W 7BP.
The deadline for submissions is March 15 2002. (GB)
