QUANTEL SUPPLY QVC WITH CUSTOM SOLUTION

QVC, the home shopping network channel have chosen Quantel to provide a custom-built, server-based integrated post and production solution to record, archive, edit and transmit as much as 15 hours of live programming a day in their new facility to be built outside Tokyo, Japan.
Currently QVC broadcasts to more than 100 million households in the UK, the US, Mexico and Germany, and they intend to launch their new facility and programming in April 2001.
The integrated Quantel system consists of a 14-port Clipbox Power server which is the only server available with embedded editing, allowing multiple editors to directly edit all material held within the server, simultaneously and without copying, with results that are instantly ready for air. Also included with the installation are four edit workstations for online editing, a Paintbox FX and several Clipbox Studio production servers.
David Frey, Vice Chairman and Representative Board Director for QVC Japan, said: “I found that Quantel offered the most reliable, highest quality video server with embedded editing on the market. What I wanted to do was develop a system that would allow us to edit out the sold out segments and do it in an efficient, timely manner. Quantel is the only company that can offer us that capability.”
In addition, Quantel are able to provide QVC the ability to handle fonts in Kanji and Katakana Japanese languages in real time.
