QVC Chooses Quantel For New Venture In Italy

A developer of innovative, high performance content creation and delivery systems has placed an order with Quantel for the supply of an Enterprise sQ server system. The system, employed by QVC, will provide a totally integrated production and play-out environment for its brand new Italian subsidiary in Milan.
The Enterprise sQ system will form the backbone of QVC Italy's production and play-out operation, fully integrated with QVC's in-house 'QSAAM' scheduling, automation and asset management solution produced in Japan. System integration is being handled by TSL, who will be prefabricating and testing the entire system at its UK headquarters before shipping to Italy ready to go on air in October this year.
The sQ servers at the heart of the system will be configured with 400 hours of DVCPRO 100 HD storage, and support 11 Quantel sQ Cut and sQ Edit desktop applications as well as two eQ finishing systems with QColor in-context grading to give complete post production capability. Two Final Cut Pro editors will also be fully integrated into the Quantel workflow.
The system will be configured in three zones, providing not only dual resilient play-out but also great flexibility for future developments and changes. A Quantum library will enable all media to be quickly retrieved and repurposed using Quantel's Intelligent Archive technology.
QVC Italy is the third national QVC subsidiary to choose Quantel production technology, which is already in use in Japan and the UK. He added: "Quantel Enterprise sQ technology has already proved itself able to deliver the speed, throughput and regulated workflow we need in QVC's Japanese and British operations, and it was the natural choice for the new Italian venture; there is still nothing else on the market that can match its performance."
