Tessa Jowell opens new £250,000 edit suite at Yorkshire Television

Yorkshire Television’s (YTV) new £250,000 edit suite was officially opened by Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Tessa Jowell, on Tuesday March 23.
This important regional investment is part of the new single ITV’s commitment to regional production.
Prime time network dramas, including ‘Heartbeat’, ‘Where The Heart Is’, ‘A Touch of Frost’ and ‘The Royal’ will be using the suite, along with independent producers such as Coastal Productions, who have just confirmed a new series of ‘Wire In The Blood’ with ITV.
Equipped with Quantel’s eQ editing system, the new facility provides both standard and high definition capabilities in a single package and will deliver everything from conforming to finishing and title sequences.
Commenting on the new facilities, John Surtees, YTV Director of Resources, said: “This is a significant investment which highlights our continuing commitment to a wide range of network programme production in the Region. We’ve installed the latest technology in an environment comparable with anything you might find in Soho. The new facilities greatly enhance what we have to offer here in Yorkshire and we very much hope this will attract yet more new production business to our region.
Tessa Jowell added: “I have been impressed by the sheer scale of what I have seen during my visit, which demonstrates a clear commitment to regional investment in high quality programmes. These programmes successfully reflect the region in which they are made, while being enjoyed across the whole country.”
David Croft, Managing Director of YTV, also showed Tessa Jowell round the Emmerdale Studios and the site of a new film-processing laboratory, which is scheduled to go on line in July.
This new £400,000 facility will mean 35mm processing will be available in the North for the first time and is further evidence of ITV’s commitment to providing a complete range of television and film production facilities in the region.
