BBC APPOINTS NEW HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS

THE BBC have announced the appointment of Sally Osman as Head of Communications.
Director of Marketing & Communications Matthew Bannister (pictured) said: “Having looked both externally and internally, it was quite clear that she was the outstanding figure in the industry with the qualities we need to lead this important area.”
Osman’s new post will be supported by the new Head of BBC Publicity, Vanda Rumney; the Head of Corporate and Public Relations, Andrew Whyte; and the Head of Press, Donald Steel.
Appointed Controller of Press and Publicity for BBC Broadcast in 1998, Osman was previously Head of Corporate and Public Relations at Channel 5 Broadcasting.
Bob Dulson, the BBC’s Head of Corporate Press Relations, who is planning to leave next year, has agreed to stay during the transition period and will take on the senior role of Chief Adviser Media Relations.
Rumney, currently Head of Television Publicity, will now take responsibility for leading the teams who publicise the BBC’s output across all media.
Steel, currently Chief Press Officer, will be responsible for establishing a central BBC press team which will deal with all reactive and news management issues.
Whyte, who established the BBC Broadcast public relations team, has been appointed to lead Corporate and Public Relations activity across the BBC. (CD)
