The Royal Television Society (RTS) has announced the nominations for the RTS Television Journalism Awards 2018.

The awards ceremony, sponsored by GuestBooker, will take place on Wednesday 28 February 2018 at the London Hilton, Park Lane.

The RTS Journalism Awards, for both news and current affairs, seek to recognise creative and excellent journalism by organisations whose broadcasts are transmitted on a UK-based platform, or who create online video content from a UK production base. The awards are chaired by Sue Inglish.

The News Channel of the Year award will once again be contested by BBC News Channel, CNN International and Sky News, while the Daily News Programme of the Year will go to either ITV News at Ten, Victoria Derbyshire Programme(BBC Two) or BBC News at Ten.

Programmes in the running for the News Coverage – Home award are the Victoria Derbyshire Programme for its reporting on Football Abuse Revelations (BBC Two), BBC News' Knife and Gun Crime Uncovered, and BBC Newsnight on The Grenfell Tower Fire. The News Coverage – International award will recognise either Channel 4 News' Rohingya Crisis coverage (ITN for Channel 4 News), The Demise of ISIS by ITV News (ITN for ITV) or BBC News' reporting on Yemen.

Grenfell Tower Fire (Sky News), Manchester Terror Attack (Sky News) and Good Morning Britain - Grenfell Tower Fire (ITV Studios Daytime for ITV) will compete for the Breaking News award, while the Rohingya Refugee Crisis (Sky News), Libya Slave Market (CNN International) and Priti Patel Resignation (BBC News for BBC One) are all in contention to win Scoop of the Year.

The Network Presenter of the Year award is contested by Victoria Derbyshire (Victoria Derbyshire Programme, BBC Two) in her third consecutive nomination in this category, as well as Julie Etchingham for ITV News & Current Affairs (ITN for ITV) and Andrew Neil (BBC News for BBC One and BBC Two). Channel 4 News' Jonathan Miller will battle it out with BBC News' Orla Guerin and Sky News' Stuart Ramsay for Television Journalist of the Year. Meanwhile, contenders for the Specialist Journalist of the Year are BBC Newsnight's Chris Cook (BBC Two), Sky News' Jason Farrell and Channel 4 News' Michael Crick (ITN for Channel 4). RTS will also celebrate up-and-coming journalists with the Young Talent of the Year award, with nominees Nawal Al-Maghafi (BBC News for BBC One), Ashley John-Baptiste (Victoria Derbyshire Programme - BBC Two and BBC News) and Helen-Ann Smith (Sky News).

Victoria Derbyshire Programme receives a nomination in the Interview of the Year category for its football abuse revelations (BBC Two), where it will go up against Emily Maitlis' interview with Theresa May for Newsnight - Grenfell (BBC Two) and A Nolan Show Investigation: The Arlene Foster and Jonathan Bell Interviews (BBC One Northern Ireland). The Independent Award highlights the best independent productions, with contenders including Battle for Mosul - Channel 4 News (Nine Finger Productions for Channel 4), Dispatches - Undercover: Britain's Cheap Clothes (Blakeway Productions for Channel 4) and Unreported World: Africa's Perfect Storm (Quicksilver Media for Channel 4).

The ceremony will also reward programmes and presenters in the Nations and Regions, as well as Camera Operator of the Year and the best News Technology to have emerged in the past year.
