New Head Of Drama For BBC Scotland Appointed

News Image
Gaynor Holmes has been appointed as the Head of Drama for BBC Scotland.

Ms Holmes's experience includes TV productions such as Monarch Of The Glen, Waterloo Road, Ashes To Ashes, Garrow's Law, The Field Of Blood, Reichenbach Falls, Two Thousand Acres Of Sky and River City, among many others.

Born in Aberdeenshire, Ms Gaynor began her TV career in 1995 in the independent sector, working on TV dramas, films and documentaries. She then worked at BBC Scotland's drama department on in-house and indie productions for both Scottish and UK audiences.

Ms Gaynor has been the Acting Head of Drama, Scotland, since September 2014 following Christopher Aird's appointment as one of the two Heads of Drama, London.

Donalda MacKinnon, Head of Programmes and Services for BBC Scotland, said: "Gaynor has an exceptional track record in drama production and I'm delighted that she has now agreed to accept this role on a permanent basis. The year ahead is a very busy and exciting one for drama at BBC Scotland with shows including Stonemouth and One Of Us so it's great to have her at the helm."

Mark Freeland, Controller of Fiction and Entertainment for BBC Production, said: "Gaynor has been involved in some great Scottish drama over the years and her experience and passion will stand her, and the drama output, in great stead in the future."

Ms Holmes said: "In my 14 years at BBC Scotland, I have always believed passionately in making drama loved by our audiences across the UK and beyond. I'm hugely excited about taking up this challenge alongside the fantastic BBC drama team and I'm looking forward to forging new collaborations across the wider drama community."
