GearBox appointed Digidesign ICON partner

GearBox, the London-based Digidesign audio/video professional dealer, has been appointed as an authorised partner for ICON, the innovative, high-resolution digital audio production system with integrated D-Control console.
To date GearBox is one of only two organisations in the UK to be awarded this status.
In a related move, GearBox has become the first rental company in Europe to be able offer both the complete Digidesign ICON system and the standalone D-Control tactile work surface available for hire.
Digidesign ICON offers users a completely custom-configurable audio production environment. Options include comprehensive tactile control, expandable analogue and digital I/O’s, integrated remote mic preamps, effects processing plug-ins and software options from Digidesign Development Partner’s, seamless Avid picture support, synchronisation and machine control options.
In addition to supporting mixes up to 24-bit/192 kHz in 7.1 surround via the X-Mon monitoring system, the ICON features touch-sensitive tactile controls, a wide range of visual mixing feedback, a dedicated centre section and per-channel management over all processing functions, routing, global automation capabilities, and full studio and control room monitoring.
“ICON takes Pro Tools functionality to an entirely new level, making it a superbly efficient and creative tool for mixing in a professional music or audio post production environment,” said GearBox Managing Director Richard Eastwood. “It is the depth of integration within the system that makes it so much more than a Pro Tools|HD Accel system with a digital console bolted onto it. The term ‘studio in a box’ has been bandied about before but we would argue that ICON is the first truly practical implementation of that concept.”
Eastwood added that even before widespread adoption of ICON, Pro Tools had become the de facto standard for film post-production, to the extent that in 2004 Digidesign was awarded a technical Oscar for its audio system.

GearBox operates the largest fleet of Pro Tools|HD systems available for hire in Europe and also offers high-quality Pro Tools demonstration suites at both its London locations. Additionally GearBox now offers a unique on-site Digidesign ICON demonstration service for clients wishing to evaluate the system in their own facility. Interested parties are invited to book a test session, for which GearBox will provide a Digidesign qualified ICON engineer.
